10th Anniversary Silver Pandas From Macau’s 2023 Coin Expo
The China Mint has been issuing special commemorative Panda proofs at coin shows around the world for nearly 40 years. These spectacular pandas have long been a cult classic among Panda collectors for their extremely low mintages and innovative designs. Here we have the highly coveted Show Pandas that were struck for the 2023 Macau Numismatic Society’s Coin Expo held November 23–26, 2023—the the 10th year that a Macau “Show Panda” Proof has been issued!
New Design From An Award-Winning Artist
At 40 mm in diameter, this large silver proof features spectacular designs that are highly representative of Macau and its fast-paced culture. The reverse of the 2023 Macau Show Panda features Macau Panda Twins Jian Jian and Kang Kang in front of the Macau Giant Panda Pavilion, while the obverse shows a gold-gilded image of the Macau’s famous Kun Iam Temple statue, of Guan Yin, the Buddhist goddess of mercy. The bronze statue is one of Macau’s most recognizable landmarks, and as such, often features on sightseeing tours of the city. It’s also one of only a few such statues where the goddess faces inland rather than toward the sea. Designed by Portuguese architect Cristina Rocha, the 66-foot-tall statue stands atop the lotus-shaped Kun Iam Ecumenical Center. In addition to the intriguing design, an inscription reads “Macau Numismatic Society Annual Expo 2023 11/23-26” in English and Mandarin. This exciting proof was designed by one of China’s leading panda coin designers, Yu Min. Mr. Yu is renowned in numismatic design circles—he was the first designer to win the 2017 Krause Publication’s Life Achievement Award.

The Las Vegas Of Asia
Founded in 1988, the Macau Numismatics Society (MNS) operates much like the American Numismatic Association (ANA). Just like the ANA, the MNS puts on an annual convention, hosts educational forums, and regularly publishes new research on coins and paper money. It’s based in Macau, a Special Administrative Region of China, and encompasses the surrounding areas. Macau is an autonomous region on China’s southern coast located across the Pearl River Delta from Hong Kong. Its giant casinos and malls have earned it the nickname the “Las Vegas of Asia.” Not only is Macau recognized as the gambling capitol of the world, but it’s also one of the world’s richest and most densely populated regions, boasting a per-capita purchasing power that is higher than that of any country in the world!
Just 300 of these impressive silver proofs were struck—an incredibly tiny number compared to the millions of other silver pandas struck by the China Mint! And even fewer are available certified by NGC in Proof-70 First Day of Issue condition! Don’t delay any longer—reserve the 2023 China Two-Ounce Silver Macau Numismatic Society Expo Show Panda right now!
