1944 Philippines 1 & 2 Peso Victory Currency 2-pc Set Circulated
World War II “Victory” Peso Notes
In October of 1944, the United States liberated the Philippines from Japanese troops. To help revitalize local commerce and celebrate the victory, these 1 & 2 Peso “victory” notes were printed in the United States and put into local circulation. But what interests collectors most about these Pesos is the word “Victory” printed over the reverse!
- The imagery on these notes is spectacular. The main image on the front of the 1 Peso note features Apolinario Mabini, a Filipino revolutionary, leader, educator, lawyer, and statesman who served as the first Prime Minister of the Philippines. The bold VICTORY is splashed across the back of the note in bold black letters across a vibrant orange-colored border background.
- On the 2 Peso note is a portrait of José Rizal, Filipino nationalist during the Philippines’ Spanish colonial period. The national hero of the Philippines, Rizal was a writer and a key member of the Filipino Propaganda Movement that was advocating for political reform. Convicted by the Spanish colonial government for inspiring rebellion, he was executed in 1896 by firing squad. The bold VICTORY is splashed across the back of the note in bold black letters across a vibrant blue-colored border background
These notes were sorely needed following the liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation, as Japanese currency had been in use for the previous three years. Eventually, most of these “Victory” notes were withdrawn from circulation and destroyed, but a few of these genuine World War II artifacts still remain! This is your chance to obtain a pair of scarce artifacts of World War II. Each note comes in lightly circulated condition and exhibits all of the original detail on the front and back. They’ll make the perfect addition to any World War II collection. Secure yours now!
