Gold Wedge-Tailed Eagle

The United States Mint strikes the American Gold Eagle, the Royal Canadian Mint strikes the Gold Maple Leaf coin, while the Perth Mint in Australia, recently introduced the Gold Wedge-Tail Eagle.

The series was conceived in 2014 as the brainchild of the renowned Perth Mint and former United States Mint Chief Engraver John Mercanti- the first time in numismatic history that a former U.S Mint employee and a foreign Mint worked together on a legal tender coin release. Featuring Australia’s largest bird of prey, the Wedge-Tail Eagle, the series has featured several designs over the course of its issuance, all composed by Mercanti.
