Civil War-Era Seated Liberty Quarters

As the states fought amongst one another — as Union soldiers bravely stepped onto the battlefield to fight against friends and family from the southern states — these coins were there! Minted from 1838 all the way up to 1891, the 90% silver Seated Liberty Quarter is an iconic piece of American history, though because it was last struck more than 130 years ago, many Americans don’t even know it existed!

We’ve assembled a number of these historically significant coins struck just before and during the American Civil War, dated between 1852 and 1863 in Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition. This is the perfect way to secure one of these historic coins at an affordable price! Dates will vary.

COIN HIGHLIGHTS:

  • CLASSIC EARLY U.S. MINT DESIGN – The Seated Liberty is one of the classic designs of the 19th century. Originally created by U.S. Mint Engraver Christian Gobrecht, the same design of Lady Liberty seated with her right hand on a shield and her left hand grasping a staff topped by a Phrygian cap was used on the half-dime, dime, quarter, half-dollar and dollar coins of the 19th century.
  • STRUCK IN FINE SILVER – Each Seated Liberty Silver Quarter was struck in 6.25 grams 90% silver and measures 24.3 mm in diameter.
  • LEGAL-TENDER COIN – These Seated Liberty Silver Quarters were twenty-five cents legal tender in the United States, a tidy sum at a time when a quarter could have paid for a steak dinner!
  • GOOD TO VERY GOOD CONDITION – Your 1852–1863 Seated Liberty Quarter will come in Good to Very Good (G–VG) condition.
